We are working with the highway authorities to minimise the effect that NorthBridge will have on the existing roads around the development site. We recognise that there can often be delays and queues in the area and road improvement works will be carried out to specifically address these concerns.
Discussions have been held with the Highways Agency, Cambridgeshire County Council and Huntingdonshire District Council and we have carried out site surveys, traffic surveys and counts to create solutions which aim not only to minimise the potential effects of additional road-users, but reduce current problems.
In summary, we propose to:
- Contribute towards the Highways Agency’s improvements to the A14 / A141 Spittals Interchange
- Upgrade a section of Ermine Street into dual carriageway to reduce queuing and delays
- Place traffic lights at the main entrance to the development to control traffic flow and assist flows in and out of Ermine Street Business Park
- Provide a new bus service using the latest low-floor buses
- Build a footbridge across the A141, providing a safe link to Huntingdon town centre
- Create a further entrance for emergency vehicles and public transport only
- Enhance and create new footway and cycleway links to the north, east and west
- Ensure that the development is ‘family friendly’, for mothers and children, the disabled and elderly
Each of these points can be read about in more detail on the Access, Public Transport, Impact on Local Road Networks and Inside the Development pages.
